Cariblue Beach and Jungle Resort

This property has gone downhill since the last time we stayed here nearly 10 years ago. While it looks as though they may have expanded, the room we stayed in was equivalent to a 2-star budget. Bungalow 2, which I assume is their family suite, had lots of issues, as did the property. There were lots of different bugs in our room (3 wasps on the sliding glass door, several large ‘ant-like’ bugs on the walls and ceiling, and 10+ little flying bugs both in the entry and inside the bathroom). We had to call the front desk because the sliding glass door was off track and wouldn’t lock and then the remote was dead so they replaced the batteries. There were lots of marks along the walls which made the room look dirty and unkept. The bathroom looked like something from a Super 8 motel…no one felt comfortable showering without shower shoes! The water refill station closest to our room was either empty or just not working. The king size mattress was literally hard as a brick…I have honestly never slept on a harder mattress and I’m 45 and have traveled the world. I’ve had softer from a sleeping bag foam pad! There were 6 suites in this building and ours was the only one without a patio hammock (you could see where it would have gone but was never replaced.. I posted pictures). The wi-fi was extremely spotty and the front desk gave us another network which was said to be ‘stronger’ but was not. And the security gate was completely inoperable as the entire keypad system had been removed! So, at night it was left cracked open and during the day it was wide open. The positives for this property is that it’s directly across the street from the beach and the breakfast was abundant in offerings. Please know that several of these concerns were shared with the front desk within hours of our arrival as they sent someone to fix the door and change the battery remote. We were told that there was no one on property to come and take a look at our other complaints such as the bugs. The next morning around 9:30am we still hadn’t heard from anyone so we switched hotels and moved to the MUCH nicer Terrazas del Caribe which is essentially next door and up the hill a bit. I hope no one from the property tries to leave a comment saying they value their customers and our experience, because they clearly do not! While I was on the property and providing an opportunity to ‘make it right’ no one came, so spare me the response now. People pay too much money to have a good, clean, fun, and safe experience. If this property doesn’t provide this, there are many more that will.

Just what we (mom with two teen daughters) were looking for! A great combination of nature and comfort. We were never disappointed each morning walking to breakfast as we saw butterflies, sloths, hummingbirds, frogs, agouti, and heard monkeys and toucans. Breakfast was delicious- a nice mix of healthy with sweet treats. The made to order eggs each morning were a nice addition. The pool area and retire resort were kept very clean. Absolutely beautiful property! The daily specials at the restaurant and bar area took the sting out of the higher prices. But we enjoyed the appetizers and pizzas. We stayed in jungle bungalow 45 towards the back of the property. It was like a nature walked each time we left. our bungalow. Our bungalow was very comfortable, but the bathroom was a bit rustic. This property was several minutes from town by tuk tuk ride. But walking distance to many good restaurants. Easy access to the beach. We will definitely return!

The hotel personal is very friendly and pay close attention to details. Housekeeping is perfromed very early. The hotel is close to key locations. Highly recommneded Sol del Caribe Restaurant which is walking distance. My 9 year old and 5 year old enjoyed the pool which run 24/7. The pool bar drinks were fine and the restaurant menu is decent. I cant wait to come back !

After a difficult night I talked to the hotel manager our situation and he made sure that our stay was really outstanding!! Great food, location and extraordinary service made our stay unforgettable. I will definitely keep coming back to this resort in the Caribbean!!

Lovely hotel very well located incredible breakfast and food, monkies and sloths in the hôtel jungle! Amazing Swimmîng pool to have cocktails. Very close to the beach: just cross the road. Very nice welcome and advices from David. Nice staff in general. We highly recommend.

Cariblue was an excellent place to stay in Puerto Viejo. The hotel has a big pool, as well as 2 others, a large restaurant, a spa, and small huts scattered around the natural areas. The rooms were decent, they had AC, hot water and a mini fridge. There were a few sneaky bugs that managed to get in, but it wasnt too bothersome. The buffet breakfast was excellent and catered for allergies too. The hotel is right next to the beautiful beach, and a short car/bike journey from the main town. Cahuita national park is a short drive away and a great place to see wildlife- the hotel offered multiple tours and activities that you could book. I recommend bringing cash, as there is no cash point close by and the food vendors on the beach wont accept card.

We live in Costa Rica and this was our third stay at Cariblue, with the 4th booked for September 2024. Excellent facility, very quiet, and the best staff we have ever encountered. The last two times we have stayed in a King Bungalow and that is our vacation niche! We find the food to be excellent.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay here. Our room on the first floor of the newer block was spacious, clean and modern. We enjoyed the pool bar and the food there was very good. We had the fish and chips. There’s a resident sloth. Definitely recommend this place. The staff, as in most of the places we’ve stayed throughout Costa Rica are friendly, helpful and truly complement this beautiful country. Pura Vida amigos.

This is a great location, with good facilities. The restaurant serves tasty food all afternoon and into the evening. We had a superior room and it was comfortable and felt wrapped in jungle. The doors have screens for ventilation which is great for waking up to the sound of birds but less good when it's noisy neighbours on their balcony or the awful disco music around the pool on the Friday evening. shower worked but needs an upgrade. but generally we liked it and loved walking to the beach and around the grounds which are luxuriant and have a resident sloth, lots of birds and agoutis
